Amazing Berry Crisp!

This recipe is so simple and is always great! The recipe comes from my friend, fellow health coach and farmer, Dotty Sharp. She has some really great raw food recipes on her website, http://www.consciousdwellings.com. If you are into smoothies, she has the best suggestions!

I have made the crisp many times and of course I have modified it as well. Here is the recipe as Dotty provides along with my modifications!

Raw Berry Crisp
  • 6 cups mixed fresh berries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and/or sliced strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup, more or less to taste
  • 1 cup pecans, raw
  • ½ cup walnuts, raw
  • ½ cup dates, pitted, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Toss berries with maple syrup in a 6 x 10 inch dish. Put dates in food processor and pulse to coarsely chop. Add pecans, walnuts, dates and cinnamon into a food processor and pulse until coarsely ground. Scatter nut mixture over berries and serve immediately, or chill until ready to serve.

My modifications:

Peaches are in season right now and they taste great in this dish - you can mix them with the berries or by themselves!

Try pineapple, bananas or mango for a tropical taste and use macadamia nuts.

In the fall, use apples and/or pears tossed in a little lemon juice.

Try using different nuts/nut mixtures - use almonds, macadamia nuts, sunflower seeds. You can try sprinkling a little ground flax seeds into the nut mixture. You can also use coconut in the nut mixture.

Try using different spices. Try some ginger, nutmeg, cloves in addition to or instead of cinnamon.
